Mt SoledadHere comes the ACLU once again, demanding that a town council in Michigan cease and desist after one board member, a lady, opened the session with prayer invoking Jesus’ name. Here’s a part of the prayer:

We ask Lord, that you make us good stewards and thoughtful advocates for those who have trusted us to put us in these positions. We ask Lord, to guide us to search for what is right, what is good and to always seek the truth. We ask for your blessings and everybody in this room and all of Oakland Township. In Jesus’ name I pray — amen.”  (1)

The ACLU contends; ” Under well-established law, a governmental body offering a prayer before a legislative session, where that prayer singles out one religion over others, violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment of the Constitution.”  (2)

This is a lie. The only firm basis of our national defense and prosperity (if we do things God’s way), can be found in Christ (Proverbs 18:10). The men who brought you this great republic would strongly disagree and challenge the ACLU’s claim:

For the glory of God and the Advancement of the Christian faith…” – Mayflower Compact

No King but King Jesus” – Motto of the American Revolution

The General hopes and trusts that every officer and man will endeavor to live and act as becomes a Christian soldier defending the dearest rights and liberties of his country.” George Washington first General Order to his troops July 9, 1776

First of all, I . . . rely upon the merits of Jesus Christ for a pardon of all my sins. Samuel Adams, Father of the American Revolution (3)

To my Creator I resign myself, humbly confiding in His goodness and in His mercy through Jesus Christ for the events of eternity. John Dickinson, Signer of the Constitution (4)

You have been instructed from your childhood in the knowledge of your lost state by nature — the absolute necessity of a change of heart, and an entire renovation of soul to the image of Jesus Christ; of salvation thro’ His meritorious righteousness only — and the indispensable necessity of personal holiness without which no man shall see the Lord. Elias Boudinot, Revolutionary Officer, President of the Continental Congress (to his daughter). (5)

Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer’s mission upon earth? That it laid the corner stone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity, and gave to the world the first irrevocable pledge of the fulfillment of the prophecies, announced directly from Heaven at the birth of the Savior and predicted by the greatest of the Hebrew prophets six hundred years before?” (6)

We’ve been warned that when one invokes Christ’s name it will, in some arenas, incite hostility (Matthew 5:11-12).

This lady and her family may come under attack on a number of fronts because of this bold stand (1 Peter 4:14). Question is, are we going to let them take the hits alone?

No. We stand side by side, shoulder to shoulder, in the power of the only Name given under heaven whereby men can be saved: Jesus the Christ.

  2. Susan Fulcher Says:

I stand with Deb, you and every other believer who expounds the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ no matter what or where the situation.
