When a nation such as America turns away from the Lord, two things happen. First, we lose our liberties.
Let the words of a patriot and the Father of American Geography, Jedediah Morse, refresh your memory; “To the kindly influence of Christianity we owe that degree of civil freedom and political and social happiness which mankind now enjoys. All efforts made to destroy the foundations of our Holy Religion ultimately tend to the subversion also of our political freedom and happiness. In proportion as the genuine effects of Christianity are diminished in any nation… in the same proportion will the people of that nation recede from the blessings of genuine freedom… Whenever the pillars of Christianity shall be overthrown, our present republican forms of government – and all the blessings which flow from them – must fall with them.” (1)
Next, we cannot depend on God’s protection over our land when we’re out of His will. If he does intervene, it’s only because of His grace.
God is America’s defender. Our birth certificate, The Declaration of Independence, reads “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm Reliance on the Protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and out Sacred Honor.”
When things were falling apart at the Constitutional Convention Franklin reminded them of this, before making a motion calling the body to prayer.
“In the beginning of the contest with Great Britain, when we were sensible of danger we had daily prayer in this room for the Divine Protection. — Our prayers, Sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a Superintending providence in our favor. To that kind providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our future national felicity. And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? Or do we imagine that we no longer need His assistance.” (2)
Do you think America defeated world powers like Great Britain twice, Germany and Japan because of our greatness or things we did? Of course, there were great patriots, ordinary Americans, involved in the struggle. But, we did it with God’s help, and because people were praying and living godly.
Who made it possible for Arnold’s treason to be uncovered? Who sent the storm during the War of 1812? Who was responsible for the discovery of Lee’s battle plans? Who preserved the Union? Who moved Hitler, a terrible military strategist, to spread his forces thin across Europe?
Do the heavy lifting to see how, time after time, this “unseen” Friend pulled our butts out of the fire.
Go back to that verse on the wall in front of Detroit’s city hall and recall the words; “where the spirt of the Lord is, there is Liberty.”
When, for the most part, God’s rules were followed “the propitious smiles of heaven” to quote Washington, were on America. But since the late 40’s, after WWII, a huge shift took place and the nation moved away from God.
With our elected officials promoting abortion, homosexuality and hostility towards Israel they’re taking a “stand against God” and His Word. (3)
President Obama is the most radical of them all and proud of it. His intent is to shove the ‘religion of the left’ down our throats…“literally shredding the Constitution of the United States…defying the rule of law and your not allowed to say anything, in part, because of his race.” (4)
Many are convinced he’s deliberately leading the nation into ruin. Rush say’s; “Don’t listen to what he say’s, watch what he does.” When have you heard him or others in Washington use the terms individual liberty, property rights, freedom, patriotism, or capitalism?
Since “becoming more and more secular, more atheist, taking God out of government, taking God out of schools,” we’ve lost civil and religious liberties our fathers and the generations before us fought and died for. (5)
Attacks on our soil will also increase. Are you aware of what happened in Merced, California last week? As you read about it, think about what’s going on in Israel and how Obama has treated our friends over there.
Been on a airplane lately? What happened to the 4th Amendment?
Did you know the Governor of Virginia wanted to raise fees on toll roads to $17.00 a day? Fortunately, voters shot it down last Tuesday.
What’s the point? Those in power want to limit your freedom and your ability to travel as you wish. If we continue to turn away from God we’ll see more intrusions into our lives.
The Left is moving to “a world totally free of all Christian boundaries and moral restraints and they have to silence Christians as a voice for morality in America.” (6)
I’m also concerned because a majority of Christians are paying no attention to the slaughter of babies now taking place. Where’s the outrage?
I don’t know how we can ask God to protect us, when we’re not willing to lift a finger to protect the innocent and defenseless.
Brings to mind the words in the report after Allied Troops discovered the horrors of the concentration camps at the end of WWII; “The people are cowards and guilty as sin. The people are to blame for their lack of courage.” (7)
