We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” (Declaration of Independence)

Creator is the second reference to God found in our Declaration, and who better than Noah Webster is qualified to render an opinion?

Historian David Barton writes; “Noah Webster’s 1828 Dictionary…was begun with a dedication to God, praying that it would be useful for ‘the moral and religious elevation of character and the glory of my country.’ Additionally, after defining each word, he provided examples to clarify the meanings of the word, and a large percentage of his examples were Bible verses.” (1)

Let’s begin with the word Creator which Webster defines as “The being or person that creates.” Following this is Ecclesiastes 12:1, “Remember Thy Creator in the Days of thy youth.” (2)

He then defines the word create as “To produce, to bring into being from nothing; to cause to exist.” Underneath, Genesis 1:1 appears “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (3)

One of America’s premier forefathers tells us it was the God of Scripture Who our Founders relied on when they set their hand to the Declaration.

William Blackstone tells us, “Man, considered as a creature, must necessarily be subject to the laws of his Creator, for he is entirely a dependent being….And consequently, as man depends absolutely upon his Maker for everything, it is necessary that he should, in all points conform to His Makers will. The will of his Maker, is called the law of nature.”(4)

According to scripture, which is what many of you believe or else you wouldn’t be on this site, God created the world out of nothing (Genesis 1:1), created man and woman (2;7, 21-23), created marriage between one man and one woman (2:23-25, see also Matthew 19:3-6), and has the right to tell us how to live (see for example Genesis 2:16-17, Joshua 1:8, there are other verses).

Don’t think so? In Job 38:4 God calls Job on the carpet and asks a very direct question: “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding…” To paraphrase Dr. J. Vernon McGee, “This is His universe and He can run it anyway He pleases.”

He’s not limited by anything (Exodus 14:13-31) and the language God uses in I Kings 17:3 shows His absolute sovereignty. Another example, this one outside of scripture, occurred while Washington and his troops were at Valley Forge. The men were near starvation, and at the right time, (after Washington took time to pray), God sent an early migration of fish up the river and spared the army.

If Christians are paying attention, and I hope they are, Obama tipped his hand at the UN on where his allegiance lies when he said, ‘the future does not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.’

Ever hear him defend Christ in such fashion?

No wonder we’re in crisis. It’s because we have stepped out of the will of our Creator, (which is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ, Colossians 3:15-18) and placed people in office who have no regard for His law. Remember, during the American Revolution the motto was “No king, but King Jesus.”

That’s why the big push to rid the nation of Christianity. Remove the Creator’s influence  and we’ll pay a price, something many are unaware of, but something Jedediah Morse warned about; “Whenever the pillars of Christianity shall be overthrown…all the blessings which flow from them, must fall with them.”(5)

Government then decides what rights to confer (smoking, seat belt usage, strip searches at airports), and as William Penn tells us; ‘Those who will not be governed by God will be ruled by tyrants.’ (6) It’s heading that way, and has been for some time.

So you tell me, can you claim to be a true follower of Christ and vote for those who toss His Word aside, or do we show ’em the door? I think you know the answer to that.

    Truth. Pure, unadulturated truth; and well said, at that.

    Another thing that puzzles me just as much though: “We hold these TRUTHS to be SELF-EVIDENT…” What does it say about the intellectual capacity of civil servants (or anyone else for that matter) of whom ‘truth’ is NOT ‘self-evident’?

    I’m just askin’……just askin’. GOD help us.

    Samuel Adams, The Father of the American Revolution, told us; “The public cannot be too curious concerning the characters of public men.” It means we need to do more checks relative to their backgrounds. It’s difficult, but there are things out there to assist us.
