“I do not expect the Union to be dissolved-I do not expect the house to fall-but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other.” Abraham Lincoln, “A House Divided” speech June 16, 1858

After Israel sufferd a crushing defeat we find Joshua on his face, licking his wounds, that is, until the Lord intervened and said, “Get up, and why are you lying on your face?… Israel has sinned (Joshua 7:6-11).” Once the nation removed it, they were ready to move again (Joshua 7-8).

Untold millions “appealed to the Supreme Judge of the World” for a new president. Well, we got our answer and nothing changed. One side controls the House, the other the  Senate, (give or take a few seats) and Obama is still in office. For the most part, the popular vote was split with the results confirming what many knew for years, ‘we are a divided country’.

Like Abraham, many are asking, “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” To quote Dr. McGee, “the Judge of all the earth always does right.”(1) He knows us through and through. If we got our way He knows we might just sit back and rest, getting ready for the new season of American Idol or some other moronic reality show to divert our attention away from what’s really important.

Many of you are devastated and think we’ve lost the country forever. Now is not the time to quit, but with God’s grace, we must get up and get back into the fight. Christ isn’t fond of wimps either and scripture commands us to ‘endure hardship (such as this setback) as good soldiers of Jesus Christ’ (2 Timothy 2:3).

When Washington was sworn in, his left hand was on the Bible opened to Deuteronomy 28 (the blessings and curses on a nation). The Founders set the course for how this nation would be governed – which is under God and His Word. However, the right to life issue, among other things, must be dealt with for things to get better. The problem is spiritual.

Like slavery, abortion continues rearing its ugly head. Truth be told, I believe God is throwing it into the mix until we come to terms with it and prohibit it. Again, let me re-emphasize the point that the problem is a spiritual one, not political. Winning or losing isn’t the issue. What matters is that we shine as lights (Philippians 2:15).

It won’t be easy, but it never is. Every generation is called to defend liberty and we are now called to stand. This is also a test of our Christian character. What has to happen before Christians take a stand?

When you do this, keep in mind the saying our forefathers used during their struggle to break away from Great Britian; “We fight, get beat and we rise to fight again.” They faced one defeat after another, extreme hardship and deprivation, the loss of property, family and friends, but they never gave up, never losing their hope in God.

Only ten percent of the nation engaged during that era. The rest sat on the fence, seeing how things would go, while the others were Tory sympathizers.

To quote Abishi, Why have we allowed these dogs to curse our King (2 Samuel 16:9)? Why would we even entertain the slightest thoughts of permitting them to “remove the only firm basis” of our national security? How stupid can we be?

Take a good look at who they are and Who we have to defend us. “Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. Blessed (Happy) is he whose help is the God of Jacob, who hope is in the LORD his God, who made heaven and earth…” (Psalm 146:3-6. See also 2 Chronicles 14:11 and 32:7-8).

The only thing we have to fear is when we stand before Christ’s throne, giving an account why we didn’t do our duty in this hour.

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13).

One Comment to “Act like Men!”

  1. Deb Says:

“Be still oh my soul, for our GOD is in control. And if GOD is for us, then whom shall I fear? And our GOD is for us, so lay down, be still. HE is GOD. Hallelujah, our GOD has overcome. Hallelujah, our LORD, Jesus Christ, has won…” (Sherri Youngward – “PEACE”)
